  • With 2023 drawing to a close, we look back on a year that has been characterized by debates on horse welfare and the concept of "Social License to Operate." How important the reputation of equestrian sport is among the public, and those that are not directly involved in our sector, cannot be denied and underestimated. In fact, this reputation is a prerequisite for the existence of the sport.

In this context communication is key. We must ensure that the positive stories are told, and create a more nuanced picture of the equine world. This, in contrast to what has been drawn to attention of late.

After all, it is the beautiful coexistence between horse and man that prevails. But it is the negative stories that keep finding their way into the media. This is exactly why the task of building a positive reputation is so difficult.

Now, we look forward to an enjoyable and hopefully peaceful Christmas - and to many good experiences with our horses in the new year.

With the wish that Christmas peace will reach far into the new year, we wish you and your family “Merry Christmas and Happy New Year”.

    Kind regards,

    Jan Pedersen (WBFSH President)
