It was yet another exceptional night of celebration in Bordeaux on Saturday, 8th of February, for the 2024 edition of the Longines WBFSH Breeder Awards, a prestigious prize recognising the extraordinary dedication and talent of those who breed world-class horses.
The 2024 awards went to late Silke Druckenmüller and the Trakehner phenomenon TSF Dalera BB (Dressage category), to Romain Rotty and his brilliant Zangersheide mare Legacy, ex Chavantele Z (Jumping category) and to Volker Göttsche-Götze for his remarkable Holsteiner gelding JL Dublin (Eventing category).
Each breeder was rewarded with an exquisite Longines timepiece from the Conquest collection, by a Longines representative. WBFSH President Jan Pedersen presented the breeders with an inscribed, unique bronze Brigitte Boss statue.
Longines-WBFSH Dressage Breeder of the Year 2024
The late Silke Druckenmüller won the award for the fourth time – a unique achievement. Her husband Thorsten Druckenmüller received the award on her behalf, saying that he is proud of Silke’s achievement and that he is grateful to Longines for the recognition. This comforts him after the loss of his wife. Silke’s 17-year-old Trakehner mare TSF Dalera (by Easy Game out of the mare Dark Magic, by Handryk) has been a standout in dressage at the highest international levels under the saddle of German rider Jessica von Bredow-Werndl.
In August 2024, Jessica von Bredow-Werndl announced Dalera’s retirement from competition. The mare will remain with her at her home in Aubenhausen, where she “will be spoiled until her last breath”, says Jessica, as “she deserves only one thing, and that is the very best”.
Longines-WBFSH Jumping Breeder of the Year 2024
Belgium-based Romain Rotty, breeder of the incredible Zangersheide mare Legacy (ex Chavantele Z) received the 2024 Longines-WBFSH Jumping Breeder of the Year award. With over 40 years of breeding experience, and the philosophy of breeding only from the best mares, Romain recognised Legacy’s unique potential since she was born. Together with Irish rider Daniel Coyle, Legacy (by Chippendale Z x Bon Ami) has delivered exceptional performances on the world stage.
The Longines-WBFSH Eventing Breeder of the Year 2024
The recipient of the Longines-WBFSH Eventing Breeder Award of the Year 2024 is Volker Göttsche-Götze, breeder of the talented Holsteiner gelding JL Dublin (by Diarado and out of a mare by Canto). He is proud to receive the award as Evening Breeder of the Year, and thanks Longines for the recognition they give to the breeders. JL Dublin has achieved significant success on the international stage since 2021 and has repeatedly proven to be a reliable and versatile competitor. He is a “Perfect championship horse”, says McEwen, excelling in dressage, cross-country and jumping, and he feels privileged to ride him.
Since 2019 Longines has been the WBFSH’s Official Partner for the “Longines WBFSH Breeder Awards”, which take place every year to honour the world’s best breeders in the disciplines of Jumping, Dressage and Eventing. In its collaboration with the WBFSH, Longines emphasises the importance of breeding and breeders and their roles in the development of equestrian sports.
