It is with deep sadness that we bid farewell to Hannoveraner Verband former breeding director and managing director Dr Jochen Wilkens, Honorary member of the WBFSH, who passed away on 15 August 2026 at the age of 85 following a short, serious illness.
On 1 March 1982, this farmer’s son from near Verden took over as breeding director of the Hannoveraner Verband. For over 24 years, he was responsible, together with the chairmen, for the association’s fortunes. His tenure saw a number of significant decisions being taken.
On the occasion of his retirement from active service in 2006, he was awarded the association’s Golden Pin of Honour and the Gustav Rau Medal from the German Equestrian Federation.
The development of the Hannoveraner Verband remained a key priority for him throughout his life. In Verden, he was always a welcome guest. We will remember him as an assertive, straightforward and reliable person with a great sense of humour. His motto, ‘Stah fast, kiek wiet un röög Di’ – stand firm, look far ahead and take action – epitomised his attitude and approach to work.
The entire team at the Hanoverian Association wishes his family much strength for the coming period and extends its sincere condolences.
The memorial service will be held on Thursday, 10 September 2026, at 12:00 A.M. in the Niedersachsenhalle.
